What is the weather like and when is the best time to travel?
Zanzibar enjoys a tropical climate with average daytime temperature of about 27o Celsius/80o Fahrenheit in summer and about 24o Celsius/75oin winter. The best time to visit is from June through to October and from late December through to the late of March. The rain season blow from April throughout to June and short rain fall from October throughout December.However, the ocean that surrounds Zanzibar is wonderfully warm, averaging about 27o Celsius/80o Fahrenheit.
Do I need visas?
All visitors require a valid passport with minimum of six months remaining before expiration, sufficient blank pages for Visa/entry/departure stamps, and return air ticket. Visas are required for many passport holders, please check with the respective embassies, well in advance as processing can take from few days to a few weeks. Remember that, is your responsibility to obtain necessary Visas in advance of travel. Visas are usually valid from three months to six months, depending on the country. For USA passport holders, the current price for a Tanzanian Visa is USD$100 and for the other countries, the current Visa is USD$50 per person, but these amount can change without notice.
Do I need travellers insurance?
It is strongly recommended that you purchase Trip Cancellation and Interruption Insurance. Since you have made an investment in your trip to Africa and should do what is necessary to protect it if something unforeseen happens. Azadam Tours do not sell insurance, contact your insurance company.
Do I need any special Health certificates?
You need to consult your physician about ant-malaria medication. Check with your local health authorities for any vaccination requirements. The health authorities in Zanzibar may ask you to show a yellow fever vaccination certificate if you have travelled through a yellow fever infected area.
How do I change my currency?
The local currency is the Tanzanian shillings (TZS) but US dollar is widely accepted. Currency can be exchanged at the airport and Stone Town only; however it is good to talk to your driver to stop by ATM before you leave the airport. Credit cards Visa, Master Card, Union Pay and Pay Pal are accepted at most hotels, but not at many shops and certainly not at the local markets. Be prepared to pay a surcharge between 5% - 10% if you pay by credit card. Remember American Express is not accepted in Zanzibar.
How do I get to Zanzibar?
In recent years the aviation industry has played a major role in the make of Tourism destination. Now Zanzibar and Tanzania is close to the outside world. Several major airlines such as British Airways, Emirates, Qatar Airways, KLM, Swiss Airline to name a few offer a direct flight to Dar es Salaam; a major international entry airport into Tanzania. From Dar es Salaam you can connect with domestic carriers for 20 minutes to get to Zanzibar. Some airlines such as Kenya Airways, Condor Airline and Ethiopian Airways offer a direct flight to their respective bases. However, Azadam Tours can offer ticketing solutions for both domestic and international flight.
Are there any sociocultural values to be aware of before travel to Zanzibar?
The prevailing religion in Zanzibar is Islam, so it is important when you go to the public area to dress conveniently without exposing too much skin. At the hotels or beach resorts, bikinis and less conservative clothing are fine.
Can I bring my children to Zanzibar?
Zanzibar has several fantastic children friendly resorts, with some of interesting water sports that will leave your children with the memory of a life time.
Are there group tours?
